Expansion!
On Tuesday, April 28th, a brand new 560 barrel fermentation tank was installed at the brewery. The tank was built by DCI of St. Cloud, Minnesota and shipped on a flat bed truck to Schell's. Because of the breweries unique location, two cranes has to be used. A smaller crane from Schaefer Crane of New Ulm lifted the legs off the truck, while a larger, 220 ton crane with 94,000 pounds of counter weight from Vic's Crane & Heavy Haul of Rosemount, Minnesota lifted the top. The tank was lifted up off the truck, 100 feet over the bottlehouse, and down into its new home. The tank, which stands 44 feet tall, was lowered down a hole cut through the roof only 1 1/2 inches larger than the tank itself. This was done to make rebuilding the roof easier, since the top of the tank will stick out about 9 feet above the roof.
